Extractions

Despite our efforts to save your natural teeth, there are certain cases when a tooth may need to be removed. When the tooth is compromising your health or has been severely damaged to the point that it cannot be repaired, extraction is performed.

In most cases, tooth extraction requires gently shifting teeth to loosen them from their supporting ligaments and then using forceps to remove them. However, if the tooth is broken or impacted below the gum line, we will need to remove the tooth through a small incision in the gum tissue. Once the tooth or tooth fragments have been removed, the area will be sutured closed for recovery.

While we know you may be disappointed to hear your tooth needs to be removed, we can assure you that this is done to benefit your health rather than hinder it. Upon removal, we have many options available to restore the appearance and function of your smile; this includes multiple types of dental implants, full or partial dentures, and fixed dental bridges.

If you would like, we may be able to begin discussing the steps for your restoration after your tooth is removed!

Bone Grafting

A bone graft is an oral surgery that is performed to restore the density of the jawbone so that dental implants can be placed or periodontal bone repair can be performed.

When a tooth has been missing for an extended period of time, you may notice changes occurring, not only in your mouth but also in your overall facial appearance.

  • Neighboring teeth may start shifting into the empty space.
  • Your jawbone may begin to deteriorate as a result of the lack of stimulation.
  • The skin on your face may sag.
  • Your entire facial structure will undergo changes.

A bone grafting procedure will restore the missing bone; rejuvenating the facial aesthetic and providing the opportunity to perform additional procedures in the oral cavity, such as dental implants. Additionally, a bone graft can help to restore the strength of a jawbone damaged by gum disease and offer more support to your natural teeth.
